Many improvements were also needed at this public upper primary school where 126
students, the majority from lower castes families, receive their education. With renovations complete, students now have actual classroom flooring and 20 desks. In addition to completely overhauling existing bathrooms, all the classroom walls received a much needed fresh coat of plaster and paint.
History: A public upper primary school educating 126 students through grade 7.
The school is in Chilveru, which is a neighboring rural village to Silveru. The
students live in the village and most of them are considered members of the lower
castes, untouchables. Many of the students are Catholic, with the higher caste
students being Hindu.
Project: In January 2019, the Little Angels board unanimously voted to provide
$5,000 to help buy desks (students currently attend class sitting on floors), improve
the bathrooms and improve the overall appearance of the school. In May 2019, we
transferred the first $2,000 to help fund the purchase of 20 desks and improve the
bathrooms. The existing bathrooms were completely overhauled and now there are
4 urinals and 2 stalls for the boys, and 4 urinals and 2 stalls for the girls. In
November 2019, we will be transferring the remaining $3,000 to help cover the cost
of the improvements that have already been made to the bathrooms and school.
Before this project, the over 320 children of very poor migrant workers attending this school had no bathroom facilities available on the premises. Today students have access to functioning drinking water fountains, as well as boys and girls bathroom facilities on the school grounds.
History: A school started by Pala Francis in 1998 to provide a free education to poor students. Since founding, the school has provided education for almost 3,000poor students. The school currently provides education through high school for 320students. In 2019, 50 tribal students, whose parents are migrant laborers and verypoor, were added to the school. The majority of the children are Hindu. The school has very modest accommodations, with all rooms being outdoors and before this project, the school had no bathrooms or running water for the children to use.
