None of your donation is used to cover administrative fees. Your entire donation goes directly to support our mission - sponsoring students, teachers, and to projects that provide additional support to the people we serve.
Little Angels was started in India in 2013. Our organization, Little Angels Service Team, was founded here in the US in July 2017. We work directly with our Little Angels Central Organizing Team in India to distribute the money to our students and teachers, and to support our special projects like medical kits and uniforms and books for 50 scheduled tribe children who attend the Mother Teresa School.
Yes, if you chose to provide a recurring, annual sponsorship ($300/yr) for a child. You will know their name, their story, and be able to write to them. They will also write back to you on a bi-annual basis.
An annual donation of $300 covers a uniform, partial tuition, and school supplies. The other expenses like backpacks, transportation, and additional necessary items are often provided by the children's parents, and at times our students' schools also provide some help as well. In the context of rural India, your donation is life changing. Living in these impoverished circumstances, parents often find it difficult to both feed and care for the family and keep their children in school. Many unfortuanate factors lead to girls being most at risk for being left behind in this situation. Your student sponsorship makes it possible for your sponsored child to stay in school, complete their education, and lift up themselves and their families toward a more stable, fulfilling life.
The majority of the students live in four towns/villages: Pedda Kottala (base for the local Little Angels), Silveru, Brahmanapally, and Vijayawada. The majority of teachers live in or near Pedda Kottala and teach at 3 different schools in the area.
The majority of parents work as day laborers and earn between $750-$1,000 USD per year.
Our goal is for 100% of the children we support to complete their education; however, some children are unable to complete their education due to family financial issues, death of parents or other circumstances outside of our control. When this happens, we encourage the children to learn a trade (e.g. tailoring, nursing, manufacturing) to avoid following their parents in the fields as day laborers.
